John Peters sworn in as Grover Beach police chief
Grover Beach police Chief John Peters was officially sworn in before the City Council on Monday night, after his first full day in his new role.
Peters — formerly a commander at the Grover Beach Police Department — was chosen to succeed former chief Jim Copsey, who retired in December.
Copsey, who is also assistant city manager, stayed with the department as interim chief until his replacement could be found.
Peters will be paid an annual base salary of $124,800, plus medical benefits, a vehicle for business use and a CalPERS pension. After six months, he will get a 5 percent raise pending a satisfactory performance evaluation.
