San Luis Obispo County Veterans Services Officer Dana Cummings resigned Wednesday after four years in the position.

Cummings, who was hired Sept. 6, 2011, oversaw an office that provides services to veterans and their dependents, Human Resources Director Tami Douglas-Schatz said. She did not have any further information on Cummings’ resignation, and he could not be immediately reached for comment Friday.

The position earns between $72,259 and $87,838 annually, though Cummings’ exact salary was not immediately available.

The doors of the Veterans Services Office are still open to provide services to veterans, Douglas-Schatz said, including help obtaining benefits, finding services in the community and other assistance.

There are 10 employees, including two staff members whose salary is paid through grants. There are also two temporary employees.

County officials are just starting to discuss the recruitment process, she said. In the meantime, John Fitzpatrick, one of the assistant veterans services officers, will serve as acting veterans services officer.
