1 person dead after surf rescue effort in SLO County, Sheriff’s Office says

One person died after a surf rescue effort at the Oceano Dunes on Friday afternoon.

The person was pulled from the water after authorities received a surf rescue report around 2:45 p.m., Cal Fire posted on X.

First responders performed CPR on the person, spokesperson Eva Grady told The Tribune, but the lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.

SLO County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla confirmed the fatality to The Tribune at 4:09 p.m.

Cipolla did not yet have any additional details about the victim’s identity.

Cal Fire encouraged beach-goers to use caution near the shoreline and mind changing ocean conditions.
