Inn at the Pier breaks ground in Pismo Beach
Workers broke ground on the first of two hotels in downtown Pismo Beach on Feb. 23: The Inn at the Pier.
Construction workers are clearing the 1.2-acre dirt lot — which formerly was used for overflow parking downtown — at 601 Cypress St. and are working on preparing the area to build subterranean parking, according to project spokeswoman Jennifer Barry.
The 104-room hotel is expected to be completed in spring 2017, according to Barry. She declined to disclose the cost of the project.
The hotel will be managed by Pacifica Hotels, which owns 11 hotels in San Luis Obispo County, including three in Pismo Beach: Cottage Inn, Sandcastle Inn and The Tides.
“We are thrilled to have officially broken ground on this new project,” chief operating officer of Pacifica Hotels Todd Moreau said. “We have been operating hotels in Pismo Beach for 40 years and are excited to be able to offer the community and visitors alike a new way to experience this destination.”
Once completed, the 74,000-square-foot, three-story structure will feature 1,795 square feet of commercial retail space, 2,150 square feet of meeting or dining room space, a 775-square-foot business center, 132 parking spaces (including 127 underground spaces) and a rooftop pool.
The project was contested when it went before the Pismo Beach City Council in September 2014, mostly for concerns that the hotel would take away needed parking in the area, while adding more visitors.
