Marie Callender's in Pismo Beach closes after nearly 30 years

Marie Callender’s Restaurant and Bakery in Pismo Beach closed its doors in January, but no new restaurant is slated to go into the vacant space just yet.

The restaurant, located at 2131 Price St. next to the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel, closed Jan. 9 because its lease was expiring, said Vivian Brooks, a public affairs representative for Marie Callender’s.

Brooks said the decision to close after nearly 30 years in that location “was a difficult decision to make, but one prompted by the expiration of our lease.” Brooks declined to disclose why the company did not choose to renew the lease.

Central Coast of California Hospitality LLC, which manages the property as well as the adjacent SeaCrest hotel, applied for ownership of the restaurant’s alcohol license in January to make it easier for a new restaurant to come into the place, CCCH owner Myraline Morris Whitaker said.

Whitaker’s business represents property owner Core Pismo LLC, which is looking for a new restaurant to occupy the building, she said.

At the moment, no new restaurants have been approved to go into the space, she said, and the group does not have a timeline on when to expect a new business to open in the 15,000-square-foot building.

Whitaker said some repairs and upgrades will be necessary before a new restaurant could occupy the space.

Marie Callender’s operates about 75 restaurants in the United States, according to its website. The next closest Marie Callender’s restaurants are in Ventura and Bakersfield.
