Ready to hit the slopes? This Lake Tahoe resort is opening Friday to start ski season
Those itching to get on their skis or snowboards in the Lake Tahoe area this ski season will have their first opportunity this weekend.
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe on Tuesday announced it will be open for the first time this season on Friday. Recent snowfall and snow-making conditions have made it so the mountain can open at least one lift and three trails, with more to come.
“Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has the highest base elevation in Tahoe and primarily Northern and Eastern exposure, meaning we have the ability to make snow more often when conditions permit. We benefit from the colder temperatures we experience, which often translates to better snow quality,” said Mike Pierce, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe’s marketing director, in a news release. “Our snowmakers have been busy making snow from top-to-bottom, and we’re excited to get the winter season underway!”
Mt. Rose, a roughly two-and-a-half hour drive from Sacramento, sits beyond the Nevada border past the north shore of Lake Tahoe, northeast of Incline Village. Its website says the resort has the highest elevation in Tahoe, at 8,260 feet.
Per the announcement, the Lakeview Express life will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., “offering top-to-bottom access to intermediate level trails on the Main Lodge side of the mountain. Open trails will include Kit Carson Traverse, Kit Carson Bowl and Ponderosa.”
Parking will be available at the mountain’s Main Lodge, and eateries that will be open include the Lodgepole Cafe and Timbers Bar. Fully running, the resort has eight lifts and more than 50 runs.
“We’ll continue to take advantage of the winter weather that’s expected so we can open even more lifts and terrain, and begin ski school lessons and offering equipment rentals as quickly as possible,” Pierce said.
Mt. Rose will be the region’s first ski resort to open this season. Other major resorts plan to open later this month.
