The San Luis Obispo Blues announced Tuesday the hiring of Dan Marple as the team’s next head coach and director of baseball operations.

Marple takes over following the mid-season resignation of Jamie Clark, who stepped down with three weeks remaining during the regular season. The Blues finished the summer 24-20 overall and placed seventh in the 12-team California Collegiate League.

Marple played baseball for Cal Poly during the 1970s and had a three-year stint in the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league system. He began his coaching career at Cuesta College in 1979 and later served as an assistant coach at Templeton High School.

Most recently, Marple, who lives in Paso Robles, coached the North County Indians from 2012 to 2014.

“Dan has always been high on our list,” Blues general manager Adam Stowe said in a release. “He’s local and has ample experience in baseball, but most of all he cares about his players.”
