Prep roundup: Mission Prep girls volleyball sweeps Nipomo
The Mission Prep girls volleyball team beat Nipomo 25-20, 25-11, 25-13 on Thursday led by Jennifer Laird’s match-high 17 kills. Sarah Reed and Maddie Boncich each had nine kills, and Eleri Perryman had 33 assists for the Royals (3-0), who next play Santa Maria on Tuesday.
Hope Goodall had nine kills and Nana Lemons had eight digs for Nipomo (2-1), who will next play host to Paso Robles at home on Tuesday.
Frontier 3, Arroyo Grande 1
Arroyo Grande droppped its opener 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18 on the road. Sam Oliver had a team-high 10 kills, and Zoe Paulsen added two blocks. Eden Mostajo had 12 assists, and Macie Lachemann recorded 14 assists for the Eagles, who next play host to San Marcos on Tuesday.
Paso Robles 3, Santa Maria 0
The Bearcats swept 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 behind Gabbie Morrison’s 12 assists and five kills. Kim Buchanan registered seven kills for the Bearcats, who next play at Nipomo on Tuesday.
Templeton 3, Coast Union 0
The Eagles swept 25-9, 25-15, 25-8 behind Lauren Reeves’ 10 kills.
Carra Kruse recorded 13 assists, and Hannah McRoy had 10. On the defensive side, Hailey Wyand chipped in with seven digs for Templeton.
Coast Union (0-3) was led by Ailyn Casas, who had eight kills. Karis Lawson added eight kills and had four blocks. Gigi Stoothoff distributed 30 assists, assisting on every Bronco point but two. The Broncos play in the Laguna Blanca Tournament this weekend.
Atascadero 3, Orcutt Academy 0
The Greyhounds swept 25-6, 25-10, 25-22 in a non-league match. Taylor Degnan had 10 kills and five digs, and Abby Wright recorded 16 assists. Atascadero (2-1) plays next at Cabrillo on Tuesday.
Shandon 3, Faith Christian 1
The Shandon Outlaws won their first game of the season in four sets, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.
GIRLS TENNIS
Arroyo Grande 12, Rocklin 6
No. 1 singles player Delanie Dunkle (6-1, 6-0) and freshman Josceline Ramirez (6-3, 6-4) helped the Eagles to the non-league win.
Arroyo Grande’s top doubles team of Mary Waterman and Casey Lieberman won 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.
Arroyo Grande (2-0) play host to Davis on Friday.
Mission Prep 17, Coast Union 1
The Royals swept singles and dropped one doubles set in a non-league matchup. Julia Wagner swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, as did Grace Cegelski (6-1, 6-0, 6-0) and Avery Munster (6-0, 6-1, 6-0).
Freshman Kathryn Abate and McKenzie Poole also teamed up to sweep 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 for Mission Prep (2-0).
The doubles team of Ani Corbet and Allysa Drew took a set 6-2 for Coast Union.
Atascadero 10, Templeton 8
Nicoline and Anneline Breytenbach won two out of three for the Greyhounds, and the team of Courtney Basden and Sarah Wulff swept 6-0.
The No. 2 doubles team of Ella Diaz and Grace Curtis also swept with scores of 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Mili Proft for the Eagles swept 6-0 in singles. Next match for the Hounds will be Tuesday at home vs. San Luis Obispo.
For Templeton, Mili Proft swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and each of the singles and doubles teams took a set for the Eagles (0-1), who play Orcutt Academy next Thursday.
San Luis Obispo 13, Orcutt Academy 5
The doubles team of Amber Lee Clark and Maya Caminada swept 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 to lead the Tigers (3-0). Each of the singles and doubles teams won two out of three sets in the non-league match. San Luis Obispo kicks off the league season at Atascadero on Tuesday.
BOYS WATER POLO
San Marcos 13, Arroyo Grande 6
Bear Waymire had four goals and both Ethan Klemowitz and Chase Taylor had a goal each in Arroyo Grande’s season opener. Ethan Mankins had seven saves and Jared Martin had five saves for the Eagles.
San Luis Obispo 18, Morro Bay 4
Cole Broome-Hanvey, Mark Olson and Mark Erbstoesser each had three goals for the Tigers in a non-league match. John Erbstoesser added a pair of goals, and Jordan Troy had five saves for San Luis Obispo (1-1).
Morro Bay’s Levi Krull had four goals, and Oliver Putnam and Ricardo Volabra each had one goal. Jackson Hymas had five saves for the Pirates, who play Pioneer Valley on Tuesday.
GIRLS GOLF
San Luis Obispo 239, Orcutt Academy 290
San Luis Obispo’s Isabel Carpenter shot a 43 to medal on the front nine at the par-35 Rancho Maria Golf Course. Hannah Ogden added a 45, and Ella Udlock shot a 49 for the Tigers (3-2), who begin the league season on Tuesday at Atascadero.
