Prep roundup: Paso Robles boys water polo goalkeeper sets record in win

Paso Robles goalkeeper Iver Hansen tied a school record with 21 saves Wednesday as the boys water polo team opened its 2016 season with a 10-3 win over Nipomo.

“Good thing he made all those saves. We let a lot of shots go,” Paso Robles head coach Duane McRoy said.

Paso Robles junior Zack Tucker led the way offensively with five goals. John Nash and Mason Steiner added two goals each.

McRoy called the Nipomo squad scrappy after a tight first half that ended with Paso Robles holding a 4-2 lead. But a 5-0 run in the fourth quarter put the Titans away.

Paso Robles (1-0) will be on the road this weekend in Hanford for the Golden Bear tournament. Nipomo plays host to Pioneer Valley on Thursday.
