Prep roundup: Atascadero girls volleyball wins season opener over Morro Bay

The Atascadero girls volleyball team won its season opener 25-14, 30-28, 25-12 over Morro Bay on Thursday. Taylor Degnan had eight kills and two blocks, and Lyndsi Edmonston had seven kills, five aces and three assists for the Greyhounds (1-0). Abby Wright recorded 20 assists and added six digs for Atascadero, which plays Templeton on Tuesday.

Santa Maria 3, Coast Union 2

Coast Union dropped its season opener in five sets, 20-25, 28-26, 14-25, 25-20, 15-9. Gigi Stoothoof led the Broncos with eight kills and five aces, and freshman Ellie Kennedy added five kills and five blocks. Sophomore Karis Lawson registered five kills for Coast Union (0-1).

Paso Robles 3, Templeton 2

Paso Robles won their season opener in five sets, 25-21, 18-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12, over Templeton in a non-league match. Lauren Reeves led the Bearcats with 18 kills, and Hanah McRoy had 35 assists and 16 digs. Cheyenne Rice added nine kills.

San Luis Obispo 3, Lompoc 0

The Tigers swept Lompoc 25-18, 25-8, 25-8 in their season opener.

GIRLS GOLF

San Luis Obispo 241, Nipomo 279

The Tigers were paced by Isabelle Carpenter, who shot a 43 to medal on the front nine of the par-35 Dairy Creek Golf Course. Hannah Ogden added a 45, and Angelina Nash carded a 48 for San Luis Obispo (2-0), who plays at Santa Ynez on Tuesday.
