Atascadero, Templeton get players into second round before losses at tennis sectionals

Atascadero High School’s Brendan Adams, the PAC 8 singles champion, and the team of Yuma Olsen and Luke Reilly, the PAC 8 doubles champs, won first-round matches before being eliminated at the CIF-Southern Section boys individual tennis sectionals Thursday in Carpinteria.

Adams beat Parker McBride of West Ranch 6-4, 7-6 (10-0) in the first round, then fell to Mira Costa’s Alex Grael 6-3, 6-2. Adams finished the year 59-3, coach Connie Baird said.

Olsen and Reilly defeated Blake Meschke and Lucas Gazic of Oxnard, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round. In the second round, they lost to Leor Kaminsky and Josh Berenbaum of Milken Community, 6-4, 6-1.

“Reilly and Olsen found their rhythm during the second half of the conference season and continued at Sectionals,” Baird said.

San Luis Obispo’s Zach Hilty, the PAC 8 runner-up, lost in the first round to Cate’s Kevin Ha, 6-1, 6-4.

Templeton’s Greg Colby, the Los Padres League champion, beat Cate’s Michael Nettesheim 6-1, 6-1 in the first round, then lost to San Marcos’ Kento Perera 6-0, 6-1 in the second round.

Nipomo’s Jon Johnson, the LPL runner-up, lost in the first round, falling 3-6, 6-0, 10-7, to Nordhoff’s Max Prestwich.

Coast Union’s Alexis Mireles lost to Campbell Hall’s Gilbert Chung 6-1, 6-1 in the first round.
