Prep roundup: Coast Union High School wins rout in playoff game

The Coast Union High softball team beat Orangewood Academy 12-2 in five innings in a first-round CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoff game, behind Ellie Magnuson’s one-hit gem.

Magnuson struck out 11 and walked only one in a complete game. Magnuson also went 2 for 2 with a two-run triple and had a two-run single to help her own cause.

Ani Corbet was 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI, and Dianna Cisneros “executed two slap bunts perfectly,” coach Rocky Fordyce said, and finished with a pair of RBI.

The Broncos (15-5) will play Faith Baptist on Tuesday.

Templeton 13, Pomona Catholic 0

Ashley Daugherty allowed one hit in five innings and struck out six in Templeton’s CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoff game.

Katie Murphee was 2 for 3 with four RBI and and three runs scored. Daugherty and Lilly Knight each added two RBI and two runs scored.

All but one player scored and all but one player had a hit for the Eagles (15-12), who travel to Barstow on Tuesday.


San Dimas 3, Arroyo Grande 2

Jake Shusterich pitched a complete game and hit a solo home run in the third inning for the Eagles in their CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoff game.

Cameron Hirahara was 2 for 3 with a double for Arroyo Grande (19-11).

Palm Desert 17, Paso Robles 1

Mark Armstrong tripled and Justin Davis added an RBI single to pace Paso Robles’ offense in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoff game.

Jeff Neumann started for the Bearcats on the mound.

“We just ran into a really good ball club,” said Derek Stroud, whose team finishes the year 20-11.

Coast Union 12, Santa Clarita 0

Jack MacKinnon went 2 for 4 with five RBI, and Lane Sutherland was 3 for 4 with a double in the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoff win.

Edgar Nunez also went 2 for 3.

Coast Union (9-11) continues play against Santa Clarita Christian on Tuesday in the second round.
