Prep roundup: Atascadero High School softball falls in CIF sectionals

The Atascadero High School softball team led 3-1 before Camarillo erupted for four runs in the fifth inning, handing the Greyhounds a 6-3 Division 2 CIF-Southern Section playoff loss on Thursday.

Atascadero was led by Kayla Herzig, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Megan McClain and Ally Regan each went 1 for 3.

Sally Bowles struck out two over six innings in the loss.

“I wish we could keep the team together; they had such great chemistry,” head coach Darin Traverso said, whose team finishes 16-9 on the year. “These girls love each other. It was a great year.”

Yucaipa 7, San Luis Obispo 4

A late San Luis Obispo rally wasn’t enough in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoff game loss to Yucaipa.

The Tigers took a 4-3 lead with a three-run sixth inning, but Yucaipa — the defending CIF state champions — answered right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Marissa Piatt led the way at the plate for San Luis Obispo, making its first playoff berth since 2008, going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Campbell Warren was 1 for 2 with an RBI double. Starting pitcher Sami Good struck out three.

San Luis Obispo finishes the season with an 11-13 record.

La Habra 10, Arroyo Grande 0

Arroyo Grande fell to La Habra of Orange County to finish 16-10 on the year. No further stats or information was available.
