A plethora of San Luis Obispo County track and field athletes qualified for the CIF-Southern Section finals with their performances at the preliminaries Saturday.
In the Division 2 prelims, held at Moorpark High School, Arroyo Grande had six qualifiers: Eddie Chagoya in the boys shot put, Nyle Diaz in the boys discus, Vince Ketelaar in the boys high jump, Samantha Henkel in the girls discus, Jana Rivera in the girls shot put and Leza Cassidy in the 3,200-meter race.
In the Division 3 prelims, held at Estancia High School, 13 county athletes qualified.
Atascadero’s Brianna Villanueva made it in the girls discus and the shot put.
Nipomo’s Jordynn Dorado also qualified in the girls shot put, and Garrett Morgan made it in the boys 800.
Paso Robles and Sna Luis Obispo advanced five athletes each.
The Bearcats advanced Kristen Thompson in the girls shot put and the girls discus, Luis Armendariz on the boys 3,200, Gannon Chamberlain in the boys 1,600 and 3,200, Codie Wilshusen in the girls pole vault and Ashley Davis in the girls 800.
The Tigers qualified James Higgins in the boys pole vault, Cora Devaney in the girls discus, Anneke Moersdorf in the girls long jump and high jump, Shaina Morris in the girls long jump, and Callum Bolger in the boys 1,600 and 3,200.
In the Division 4 prelims, held at Carpiniteria High School, Morro Bay advanced Bryn Anderson, Savannah Garcia and Nolan Roxanne in the girls pole vault.
Mission Prep qualified Noelle Laird in the girls discus, Alyssa Caldera in the girls 400 and the girls 4x100 relay team of Jenna Lee, Paige Baxstresser, Caldera and Emma Kuchinski.
The finals will be held May 21 at Cerritos College.
