It was a big day for San Luis Obispo High’s Galen Penvenne on Saturday at the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 finals at Riverside City College.
Penvenne became the school’s first-ever swimmer to qualify for the state meet with his second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.94 seconds, the second fastest in school history. He also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 55.27 seconds.
He’ll compete in the 100 free at the state meet May 20-21 in Clovis.
Also in Division 2, Arroyo Grande’s Trent Schachter placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.94 and fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.20. Teammate Charlie Watkins placed 13th in the 100 fly with a time of 52.42.

Other PAC 8 swimmers who competed in Saturday’s finals included:
Paso Robles’ Zac Brown finished 14th in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.63.
Atascadero’s Sean Mylan finished 18th in the 100 free with a time of 48.87.
In the boys diving competition, San Luis Obispo’s Blake Griffith also placed fifth in the diving competition with score of 481.15
In the girls diving competition, Arroyo Grande’s Shelbee Avelino placed 18th with a score of 331.10, San Luis Obispo’s Sophie Maino finished 24th with a 130.80 and teammate Jayde Westehol-Minnis placed 27th with a score of 128.95. A.G.’s Anna Perry finished 32nd with a score of 123.30.
