Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay advance in CIF volleyball sectionals

The Arroyo Grande boys volleyball team swept Bell Gardens 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs on Tuesday. Sasha Bylsma had 28 assists and three kills, and Ryan Meffert added 10 kills and three aces. Evan Lalanne and Jackson Tourdot each had seven kills, and Andy VanBogelen had four kills and four blocks.

Matt Wingerden added five kills, and Brett MacDonald chipped in seven digs. Arroyo Grande was ranked sixth in the latest CIF poll (As of May 2), and San Luis Obispo was 10th.

Morro Bay 3, Kennedy 0

The Pirates won their first-round CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoff game 25-18, 25-21, 25-20, led by Dustin Limon’s 15 kills and six blocks. Spencer Cecil had 15 kills and three kills, and Dexter Marquardt recorded 13 kills.

Theo Mackey distributed 32 assists. Head coach James Bueno was pleased by what he saw from his team, which played a tune-up game against Arroyo Grande last week.

“We were too fast for the other team today,” Bueno said. “(The team) played great.”
