Prep roundup: Paso Robles baseball rallies to beat Atascadero

The Paso Robles High baseball team overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat Atascadero 5-3 on Wednesday.

Brad Tews pitched 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win, and Nolan Binkele pitched two innings in relief to earn the save for the Bearcats.

Paso Robles trailed 3-0 entering the third inning before scoring two in the third, two in the fourth and tacking on an insurance run in the seventh. Seth Matthysse had an RBI double, and Mark Armstrong, Christian Erickson and Matt Keller each had RBI singles for Paso Robles (11-9, 5-6 PAC 8).

Nolan Meredith struck out five over 6 2/3 innings for Atascadero and allowed five earned and three walks. Spencer Erdman was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Zach Javine added a double and a walk for the Greyhounds (10-8, 5-6 PAC 8).

The two teams conclude the series at 7 p.m. Friday at Paso Robles.

St. Joseph 16, Mission Prep 3

Andy Boncich had a double and a run scored, and Matt Bosshardt added a single, an RBI and a run scored in Mission Prep’s loss to St. Joseph.

Renn Duncan was 1 for 3 for the Royals (7-13, 2-9 PAC 8), who had only three hits in the game. Mission Prep plays St. Joseph again on Friday.


Arroyo Grande 18, Paso Robles 0

The Eagles (17-3, 11-0 PAC 8) continued their perfect run in the PAC 8 led by Brett MacDonald, who won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. Greg Hayden won 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, and the team of Patrick Angle and Parker Turner swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

San Luis Obispo 17, Pioneer Valley 1

Gus Billing swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 for the Tigers (14-4, 9-2 PAC 8), and the tandem of Kannan Freyaldenhoven and James Raj also swept 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. Sam Johnson and Kavi Freyaldenhoven took three sets 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.


Morro Bay 236, Orcutt Academy 290

Morro Bay’s Mac Doughtery shot a 43 to medal at the par-35 Rancho Maria Golf Course. The Pirates are now 5-1 in league play.
