Prep roundup: Ally Reagan homers twice in Atascadero’s softball win

Ally Reagan had two home runs — including a grand slam in the first inning — to help propel the Atascadero softball team to a 7-5 win over Arroyo Grande on Thursday.

The Eagles scored four runs to open the game off of Sally Bowles before the Greyhounds responded with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Bowles allowed only one run after the first and struck out seven in a complete game.

Reagan was 2 for 2 with six RBI and was intentionally walked. Kaila Herzig was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Megan McClain was 1 for 2 and was hit by a pitch for Atascadero (11-7, 5-0 PAC 8), which faces Pioneer Valley on Tuesday.


Arroyo Grande 3, Pioneer Valley 0

The Eagles won 25-12, 25-14, 25-15.

Jack Tourdot had six kills, and Sasha Bylsma had 26 assists and seven kills. Raleigh Burk added six digs and three assists in the win for Arroyo Grande (11-0, 8-0 PAC 8).

Morro Bay 3, Cabrillo 0

Dustin Limon had 16 kills and three blocks to lead the Pirates to a straight-set victory, 25-11, 25-8, 25-13.

Spencer Cecil and Dexter Marquardt each had eight kills, and Theo Mackey recorded 32 assists.

Morro Bay is 11-1 and 7-1 in the Los Padres League.


Nipomo wins Los Padres League weekly tournament

Ray Navis shot 80 for Nipomo on a windy Thursday afternoon in Santa Maria to lead the Titans to a tournament win on the par-72 Rancho Maria Golf Course.

Navis’ 8 over round was the lowest of the six-team tournament.

Morro Bay finished fourth behind Cabrillo (453) and Santa Ynez (478) with team score of 493. Garrett Holdstock shot team-low 93 for Morro Bay.

Morro Bay will host Nipomo on Tuesday at Morro Bay Golf Club. Nipomo will host next week’s league tournament at Monarch Dunes.

Arroyo Grande 403, Paso Robles 430

Jack Avrit and brother Owen each shot a two-over 74 to co-medal at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Logan Elliot shot an 80 to lead the Bearcats (6-4 PAC 8).

Gabe Zufall added an 81 on a windy day for Arroyo Grande (11-1, 10-0 PAC 8), which hosts St. Joseph on Tuesday.

Righetti 425, San Luis Obispo 434

Keith Moles shot a 77 to medal for Righetti at the par-72 San Luis Obispo Country Club.

Andy Eppright had the low score for the Tigers (11-2, 8-2 PAC 8) on blustery day, carding an 80, followed by Casey Leebrick at 82.

Atascadero 460, Mission Prep 475

Stephen Orradre recorded a 78 to medal for Mission Prep, and Chandler Senior added a 93 at the par-72 Chalk Mountain course.

Mission Prep is 4-7 overall and 3-7 in the PAC 8.

Matt Larson had the low score for Atascadero with a 90.


Arroyo Grande 14, Righetti 4

Arroyo Grande sailed past Righetti on the strength of a banner performance from Greg Haydon, stepping in as a substitute, to defeat Righetti’s No. 1 singles player in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3).

Andrew Arcangel also won his singles sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0.

All three of Arroyo Grande’s doubles teams won in straight sets: the No. 1 team of Patrick Angle and Paker Turner, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, to move to 21-0 in PAC 8 play; Austin Bricker and Joey Kullman, 6-2, 6-2, 7-5; and Tyler Tencati and Joseph Goryance, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.

Arroyo Grande (9-0 PAC 8, 15-2 overall) next faces Dos Pueblos at 3 p.m. Monday.

Lompoc 11, Templeton 7

Chaz Darrow swept his singles sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for the Eagles (5-7, 4-5 LPL).

Pioneer Valley 10, Mission Prep 8

The Royals (0-9 PAC 8) nearly earned their first win of the league season, led by two sweeps in singles play.

Luke Llaurado won 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, and Max Valentine added wins at 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.

The doubles team of Miles Burnett and Mike Xue won a set 6-4 and Sam Li and Frank Lin snagged a set 6-2.

San Luis Obispo 17, Paso Robles 1

All three singles players swept for the Tigers.

James Raj won 6-1, 6-0, 6-1

Atascadero 12, St. Joseph 6

Brendan Adams won three singles sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for the Greyhounds.

Dean Menigoz won two singles sets 6-2, 6-3, and Yuma Olsen and Luke Reilly swept their doubles sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 for Atascadero (9-6, 5-4 PAC 8).

Christian Wisberg and Niko Jensen also swept their doubles sets, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5, 6-1, and Andrew Monson and Kameron Atnip won a doubles set 7-5.

Cabrillo 10, Morro Bay 8

Simon Janzen won two out of three singles sets, 6-2, 6-4, 0-6, as did the doubles team of Jonathan Tyra and Seth Wilkie, 6-1, 6-2, 2-6.

Nigel Archer and Gianni Bacardo also won a pair of sets, 6-3, 6-3, for the Eagles (8-5, 4-4 LPL).

Santa Ynez 13, Nipomo 5

Jon Johnson won three sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, for the Titans.

Jordan Smith and Tyler Newton won two sets, 6-2, 7-6, for Nipomo (2-7).

TRACK AND FIELD Templeton, Morro Bay, Lompoc face off

Morro Bay featured double winners Audrey McClish in the 1,600 and 3,200 and Hanna Wiese in the 100 and 200 in a 69-61 dual-meet victory over Templeton.

Morro Bay’s Andrew Stafford also won the 800 and 1,600.

Lompoc, the third team in the meet, swept all scores, with the boys team beating Templeton 95-33 and Morro Bay 107-14, and the girls team beating Templeton 68-58 and Morro Bay 74-60. The Templeton boys beat Morro Bay 51-35.
