Prep roundup: Arroyo Grande baseball beats Righetti; SLO boys tennis tops San Marcos

Arroyo Grande’s Nolan Elias singled in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring home Jake Shusterich to beat the Righetti baseball team 4-3 in a PAC 8 contest Wednesday.

Shusterich was 2 for 4 with a double, and Marco Salto pitched a complete game for the Eagles, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and had one strikeout.

Righetti jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Arroyo Grande responded with three runs in the second to take the lead. The Warriors then scored two in the third inning to tie the game until Elias’ single in the eighth.

Due to Friday’s forecast, Friday’s scheduled game will be at Righetti on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Atascadero 15, Mission Prep 2

Atascadero’s Nolan Meredith went all seven innings, with seven strikeouts and one walk. Noah Gastelo was 3 for 4 with three singles, Sean Muller had a two-run home run and the Greyhounds (8-5, 2-4 PAC 8) had 17 hits as a team. Lucas Sprouse added a double, a triple and three RBI, and Spencer Erdman was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

Austin Anderson had a double, a run scored and an RBI, and Robert Crandall added a double and run for the Royals. Sam Osser also had an RBI single for Mission Prep (7-7, 2-3 PAC 8).

The two teams play again to decide the three-game series Thursday at Mission Prep.

San Luis Obispo 8, Paso Robles 2

The Tigers beat the Bearcats for the second time in as many days, behind an RBI single by Ben LeMiere and two more runs in the bottom of the third. Jeremy Jess had an RBI single to score Brooks Lee.

Lee reached base three times and had a single and a double.

San Luis Obispo scored four more runs in the fifth — one on a bases-loaded walk by Tru Wells, a hit by pitch, a fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly by Cooper Benson.

Benson struck out nine in a complete game, allowing two earned runs, three hits and two walks.

Paso Robles scored a pair of runs in the fifth to close the gap to 3-2. Nolan Binkele had an RBI single and Andrew Luna stole home to get the Bearcats on the board.

BOYS TENNIS

San Luis Obispo 11, San Marcos 7

Zach Hilty swept 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 and the San Luis Obispo doubles teams won seven of a possible nine sets to avenge a 14-4 loss to start the season.

Alex Hasley and Cole Westwood took all three sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, and the other two doubles teams each won a pair of sets.

Track and Field

San Luis Obispo beats Arroyo Grande

The San Luis Obispo boys track and field team defeated Arroyo Grande 88-47 at a dual meet hosted by the Eagles. The girls team for SLO was also able to pull out a 72-64 victory on Wednesday.

First-place finishers for the SLO boys included: Callum Bolger, 1600m and 800m runs; Delvon Jack, 110m hurdles; Matt White, 3200m run; James Higgins, pole vault; Javon Montgomery, long jump; Nate Higgins, 400m run; as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.

First-place finishers for the SLO girls included: Hope Morgan, 3200m run; Kate Miller, 800m run; and Elizabeth Willey, pole vault.
