Prep roundup: Templeton’s Clayton Mackay sets a school record in 300 hurdles

Templeton High’s Clayton Mackay set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles at the West Coast Relays at Buchanan High in Clovis on Saturday, winning in a time of 38.44, the fifth fastest time in California.

Arroyo Grande’s Matt Sill was third in the 300 hurdles in 40.38.

MacKay was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.32.

Paso Robles’ Ashley Davis placed second in the girls 1,600 invitational, setting a school record with a time of 5:02.09. Trad Berti won the 1,600 on the boys side for the Bearcats (4:18.44), and Gannon Chamberlain was third (4:19.00).

The Bearcats’ Codie Wilshusen was third in the girls pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 2 inches. Templeton’s Sienna Stinson was fourth, also with a height of 11-2.

Arroyo Grande’s Chrsitian Ricketts was fifth in the 1,600 in 4:21.66, a personal best.

The Eagles’ Samantha Henkel was third in the shot put with a mark of 40-1. Malia Simon was sixth in the 1,600 in a personal best 5:08.62, and Talley Hill was seventh in the 800 in 2:21. Spencer Eley was fifth in the boys pole vault, clearing 12-9.

Atascadero’s Brianna Villanueva was sixth in the discus with a mark of 120-8.

SOFTBALL

Nipomo 22, Tranquillity 5 (five innings); Sutter 12, Nipomo 2

The Titans (6-7) split a pair of games at the Arroyo Grande Tournament.

Grace Gilmer picked up her first career varsity win on the mound, pitching a complete game, allowing four hits and no earned runs.

Gennae Abatti went 4 for 7, hitting a home run in each of the games, and had six RBI on the day. Vanessa Davis was 3 for 7 with two RBI.

Hope Goodall earned the decision in the second game, striking out five in four plus innings.

The Titans resume league play on Tuesday against Morro Bay.

Templeton 1, San Luis Obispo 0 (four innings); Paso Robles 5, San Luis Obispo 3 (five innings)

San Luis Obispo lost both games at the Best of the West Tournament, despite giving up only three earned runs over two games.

In the first game, Sami Good went all four innings, striking out seven and allowing one hit.

Natalie Ziegler and Marissa Piatt each had a hit for San Luis Obispo.

“Our pitching was outstanding,” coach Dan Monroe said. “Aside from miscues in one inning, our defense was solid.”

In the second game, Piatt was 3 for 3 with three RBI to lead the Tigers (5-8-1). Hanna Gibbs pitched five innings for San Luis Obispo, allowing two earned runs and struck out two.

The Bearcats pounced on three errors in the fifth inning to take the lead 5-2. The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and left the bases loaded to end the game.

Alyssa Valle earned the win for Paso Robles. Chloe Kerns was 1 for 3 with two runs and Mikayla Stone was 1 for 2 with a run and two RBI for the Bearcats (5-9).

San Luis Obispo plays Arroyo Grande in a PAC 8 contest on Tuesday.

Oxnard 8, Paso Robles 3

The Bearcats lost their early game at the Best of the West Tournament.

Brooke Milder scored two runs, and Chloe Kerns had two RBI for the Bearcats.
