Prep baseball: Arroyo Grande earns split at Don Lugo Tournament
The Arroyo Grande High School baseball team split two nonleague matchups at the Don Lugo Tournament in Riverside on Wednesday afternoon, highlighted by junior Zak Mosley’s complete-game victory in the opener.
Mosley didn’t allow an earned run as the Eagles (6-3) defeated Patriot 4-3. With the score tied in the top of the seventh inning, Mason Alex hit an RBI single to score Alex Cecchi for the game-winning run.
In the second game, host Don Lugo beat Arroyo Grande 8-3.
Trevor Alton went 2 for 3 and scored once, and Cecchi finished 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead the Eagles offensively.
Arroyo Grande is scheduled to play South El Monte in pool play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Paso Robles 6, St. Bonaventure 4
The Bearcats gave up an early lead, but came back to win at the Righetti Tournament in Santa Maria. Jeff Giroux and Seth Matthysse scored on wild pitches to retake the lead at 5-4, and Nolan Binkele hit an RBI double in the fifth for an insurance run.
Christian Erickson went 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Binkele was 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Ryan Harvell pitched two innings in relief to pick up the win, and Binkele went two innings for the save.
The Bearcats improved to 5-4 on the year and play Buhach Colony on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Atascadero 8, Heritage Christian 3
The Greyhounds were led by Sean Muller, who went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a single to help Atascadero to their first Easter Tournament win since 2010. Spencer Erdman had two singles and an RBI and Zach Garcia added a double.
Shane Johnson earned the decision, pitching three innings with a strikeout and three walks.
Atascadero (7-4) returns to league play on Tuesday against Mission Prep.
Grace Brethren 10, Mission Prep 0
Mission Prep lost its second game of a doubleheader Wednesday in the San Luis Obispo Spring Baseball Tournament. The Lancers turned on the offense on the way to a 10-0 shutout over the Royals.
Sage Pera, Hunter Losee and Matt Bosshardt all hit singles for the Royals, who struggled to get the ball rolling offensively. Mission Prep also lost to Templeton earlier in the day.
The Royals (4-6) play Downey High at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sinsheimer Park.
