Prep roundup: Arroyo Grande softball pitcher slings no-hitter against San Marcos
Julie Lewis tossed a gem Tuesday for the Arroyo Grande softball team.
The junior struck out 13 on the way to a complete-game no-hitter in a 2-0 win over San Marcos. Lewis also drove in a run for Arroyo Grande (6-2).
Arroyo Grande coach John Welch said Lewis suffered an injury in the first tournament of the year and had to sit out for a month. She made her return over the weekend with two strong outings.
“She seems like she has come back, and we expect a great season from her if she can stay healthy,” Welch said.
The game was scoreless in the 5th inning when a Sam Oliver double off the fence got the Eagles’ offense rolling. After Oliver advanced to third base, Lewis drove her in with a single. In the next inning, Arroyo Grande added another run on a Casey Burger RBI base hit.
“They had two really good pitchers,” Welch said.
