Prep roundup: Atascadero baseball team beats Nipomo 15-0

The Atascadero baseball team beat Nipomo 15-0 Friday in a nonleague matchup.

The Greyhounds were led by Spencer Irvin, who went six innings, allowed no runs and had four strikeouts and a walk.

Sean Muller was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, and Zach Garciz was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

John Majors also went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI.

Nipomo used four pitchers.

Atascadero improves to 3-1 and begins league play next week against Pioneer Valley on Tuesday.

Arroyo Grande 12, Cabrillo 5

Cameron Hirahara had two runs, two RBI and a pair of doubles, and Nash Ackerman went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles as the Eagles erupted for a 10-run first inning.

Jake Shusterich went five innings, striking out four and allowing three earned runs for Arroyo Grande (3-1).

The Eagles take on Paso Robles on Tuesday to kick off the league season.

TRACK AND FIELD

PAC 8 meet at San Luis Obispo High

The San Luis Obispo track and field team hosted the PAC 8 meet on Friday.

On the boys side, Nate Higgins won the 400 meters in 51.17 seconds, and Callum Bolger won the 800 in 1:58.73.

James Higgins won the pole vault in 13 feet, 6 inches. Javon Montegomery won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5 inches.

In the triple jump, Cedric Bermudez won with a total of 41 feet, 3 inches.

Arroyo Grande’s Matt Sill won the 300 hurdles in 40.67, and Christian Ricketts won the 3,200 in 10:07.77. The Eagles won the 4x400 relay in 3:32.08. Vincent Ketelaar won the high jump with a mark of 5-10.

Thad Berti of Paso Robles won the 1,600 in 4:19.28.

For the girls, Mission Prep’s Paige Baxstresser won the 200 in 26.48 and the 100 in 12.89.

San Luis Obispo’s Cora Devaney won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.

Arroyo Grande’s Talley Hill won the 800 in 2:22.34, and the Eagles won the 4x100 relay in 51.46 and the 4x400 relay in 4:12.30. Josephine Graeber won the long jump with a mark of 16-11 3/4 and the triple jump with a distance of 35-07.

Paso Robles’ Ashley Davis won the 1,600 in 5:08.24, Madison Mitchell won the 300 hurdles in 48.39 and Amanda Schultz won the 3,200 in 12:26.71. Codie Wilshusen won the pole vault with a mark of 11-0.

Atascadero’s Kirsten Purcell won the 400 in 1:01.43.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Arroyo Grande swim team beat the Tigers on both sides Friday.

Trent Schachter won the 200 free in 1:48.22 and the 100 fly in 54.39 for the Eagles. Jack Alexander won the 100 free in 49.13 and James Hazel won the 500 free in 5:08.62.

Schachter, Alexander, Hazel and Chris Dichmann teamed up to win the 400 free relay in 3:23.66.

Galen Pennvenne won both the 50 free in a CIF automatic-qualifying time of 21.79 and the 100 backstroke in 54.34 as the only multiple event winner for San Luis Obispo (1-2).

Blake Griffith won the boys diving competition for the Tigers with a score of 246.25.

The Arroyo Grande girls were led by Paige Leonard, Sarah Parson, Hannah Parson and Mikayla Pock, who won the 200 medley relay in 1:52.14, a CIF automatic time.

Samantha Hazel won the 200 free in a CIF consideration time of 2:01.28 and the 500 free (5:32.52). Leonard won the 200 IM in 2:20.73 and the 100 back in a CIF consideration time of (1:03.23). Hannah Parson won the 50 free in 24.82 and the 100 free in 54.69.

Sarah Parson won the 100 breaststroke in a CIF automatic time of 1:07.94. The 400 free relay of Samantha Hazel, Sarah Kasper, Emily Sonny and Hannah Parson won in a CIF consideration 3:49.40.

Kasper, Sonny, Hazel and Hannah Parson won the 200 free in 1:44.21.

Shelbee Avelino won the girls diving competition with a score of 197.10.

Adelynn Peterson won the 100 fly for the Tigers in 1:00.97.

Atascadero 123, Mission Prep 39 (boys); Atascadero 109, Mission Prep 55 (girls)

Mission Prep won the 4x100 relay in 2:16.60 with the team of Maddie Jackson, Katie Adams, Kaylen Gollnick, Maeve McKiernan. Jackson went on to win the 200 free in 2:35.38 and Gollnick won the 500 free in 6:07.81.

On the boys side, Michael Ronay won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:14.62 for the Royals.

Paso Robles 198, St. Joseph 63 (boys); Paso Robles 197, St. Joseph 60 (girls)

The Bearcat boys won all but two events, as did the girls, in a league matchup.

Josh Dewhurst won the 200 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay. Gavin Hughes won the 200 IM, and was one the winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay.

Grant Scheiffle won the 100 fly and was on both the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. Mitchell Iunker won the 100 free and was on the 200 medley relay and Zac Brown won the 500 free and was on the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

Hugo Delagrave won the 100 back and also was on the 200 medley relay.

Dewhurst and Brown each picked up CIF consideration times in the 200 free (1:48.03) and the 500 free (4:59.50).

BOYS TENNIS

Dos Pueblos 12, San Luis Obispo 6

Zach Hilty won both sets he played in, 6-2, 6-0, in a nonleague matchup for the Tigers.

James Raj and Cannan Freyaldenhoven won two out of three, 6-3, 6-3, 1-6.

The Tigers are 6-3 and start league play again on Tuesday at Pioneer Valley.
