Prep roundup: Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo secure tennis victories

Morro Bay’s Jonathan Tyra and Seth Wilkie swept the No. 1 doubles sets in leading the Pirates to an 11-7 win against Nipomo in a Los Padres League matchup Tuesday afternoon.

Tyra and Wilkie won their three sets by scores of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Morro Bay’s Nigel Archer and Gianni Bocardo overcame a loss in their first set to win the next two, 6-1, 6-0.

Simon Janzen, Ryan Morris and Ethan Seims won two of three sets in singles play for the Pirates (4-3, 2-2 Los Padres League).

In the No. 1 singles draw, Nipomo’s Jon Johnson cruised to three victories by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0.

San Luis Obispo 16, Paso Robles 2

The Tigers rolled to a home victory against the visiting Bearcats.

San Luis Obispo High’s three doubles teams swept their opponents, helping the Tigers improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC 8.

In singles, James Raj swept his three sets by scores of 7-5, 6-2 and 6-1.

Jakes Alltucker also went unbeaten in the singles draw, winning his three sets 6-0, 7-5, 6-1.

San Luis Obispo is scheduled to play again at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Arroyo Grande.

Pioneer Valley 13, Mission Prep 5

Luke Llaurado swept his three sets at the No. 1 singles position to lead the Royals during a setback against the Panthers.

Llaurado won his three sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0.

Mission Prep will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Atascadero.

BASEBALL

Redwood 5, Paso Robles 4

Junior Nolan Binkele pitched a complete game during the Bearcats’ loss on the road against the Rangers.

Mark Armstrong and Matt Keller each tallied an RBI for Paso Robles (3-2), and Christian Erickson had two hits and scored once.

The Bearcats return to action next Tuesday when they host Arroyo Grande at 7 p.m.

Dos Pueblos 9, Arroyo Grande 5

Nolan Elias went 3 for 4 and scored once to lead the Eagles in a loss on the road to the Chargers.

Arroyo Grande suffered its first loss of the season after defeating Lompoc in a season-opening doubleheader last month.

The Tigers (2-1) host Cabrillo in a nonleague matchup at 4 p.m. Friday.

BOYS GOLF

San Luis Obispo 419, Righetti 435

Andy Eppright carded a 78 as one of two golfers to finish under 80, and the Tigers outlasted the Warriors at Rancho Maria Golf Course.

Righetti’s Keith Moles took medalist honors after shooting a 74. Rollie Wineman shot an 80, and Duran Solis finished at 90 for the Warriors.

San Luis Obispo improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the PAC 8 heading into next Thursday’s match against Paso Robles at Hunter Ranch Golf Course.

Atascadero 450, Mission Prep 485

Stephen Orrandery shot an 80 to take medalist honors during the Royals’ setback against the Greyhounds at Dairy Creek Golf Course.

Atascadero was led by Matt Larson, who carded an 87 in the team victory.

Mission Prep improved to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the PAC 8.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Mission Prep 3, Righetti 1

Matt Blaney put down 13 kills and the Royals held on for a 25-17, 16-25, 26-24, 28-26 win against the Warriors in a PAC 8 contest.

Spencer Garner contributed 11 kills, and Michael Hernandez added 32 assists for Mission Prep (4-3, 2-0 PAC 8).

The Royals are scheduled to host Paso Robles on Wednesday.

Morro Bay 3, Cabrillo 0

Dustin Limon recorded 10 kills, four blocks and six aces in leading the Pirates to a 25-6, 25-10, 25-4 win over the Conquistadores.

Spencer Cecil chipped in 12 kills, and Dexter Marquardt added four kills and 10 aces for Morro Bay (5-0).

The Pirates will be back on the road when they play Templeton at 5 p.m. Thursday.
