Prep sports roundup: Mission Prep sweeps baseball doubleheader
The Mission Prep baseball team swept a doubleheader against Bishop Diego on Saturday.
The Royals (2-1) won the first game 6-2 and the second game 9-1.
In the first game, Matt Bossart went 2 for 3 with two singles and a run for Mission Prep. On the mound, he earned the win by striking out four batters in five innings of work.
Ren Duncan went 2 for 4 with singles and an RBI. Sage Pera was 1 for 3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs.
In Game 2, John San Jule was 3 for 5 with three singles and three runs. Dylan Beavers went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Picking up where they left off in the first game, Duncan was 2 for 4 with a single, double and an RBI, and Pera was 2 for 4 with three RBI.
Mission Prep next plays a doubleheader against Greenfield on Saturday.
Santa Barbara 8, San Luis Obispo 5; San Luis Obispo 6, Santa Barbara 3
Three Tigers drove in two runs apiece in the second game as San Luis Obispo salvaged a split in a doubleheader.
Connor Maydole, Cooper Benson and Ben LeMiere each had two RBI in the win. Maydole and Benson both had two hits.
Jake Rodgers allowed three unearned runs in five innings, striking out two for San Luis Obispo (4-1).
Jeremy Jess had two RBI in the first game, and Maydole had three hits.
SOFTBALL
Central 2, Paso Robles 0; Central 3, Paso Robles 2, eight innings
The Bearcats were swept at home.
Hunter Young and Alyssa Valle gave up a combined five runs in two games against a Central team that lost in the CIF-Central Section Division 1 title game last season.
Chloe Kerns had an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the second game to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, but the Grizzlies tied it in the seventh inning.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Arroyo Grande at Mt. SAC Winterfest
The Eagles’ boys team was third out of 37 schools.
All three relay teams posted CIF-qualifying times. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jack Alexander, Chris Dichmann, James Hazel and Trent Schachter won the race in 3:12.42. The 200 free relay team of Alexander, Dichmann, Hazel and Josh Smith finished fourth in 1:29.86. The 200 medley relay team of Charlie Watkins, Peter Fletcher, Schachter and Smith finished sixth in 1:38.90.
Schachter set two school records at the meet, taking second in the 100 butterfly in 50.84 and eighth in the 100 backstroke in 52.32. Both are CIF-qualifying times.
Alexander posted two CIF-qualfiying times, taking fourth in the 50 free in 21.95 and sixth in the 100 free in 48.35.
BOYS TENNIS
Arroyo Grande 17, Carpinteria 1
The Arroyo Grande High tennis team easily defeated Carpinteria in nonleague play.
Andrew Arcangel was victorious 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.
Brett MacDonald won his matches 6-0, 6-0, 7-5.
In doubles, Arroyo Grande (7-2) swept all nine sets for the third match in a row.
The Eagles’ next Pac 8 contest is at Righetti at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
