Prep sports roundup: Paso Robles baseball team splits doubleheader with Galena
The Paso Robles High baseball team split a doubleheader with Galena of Reno, Nev., on Thursday at Paso Robles.
The Bearcats won 6-5 in the first game, and lost 7-5 in the second game.
Jeff Neumann pitched five innings and allowed four runs, picking up the win in the first game. Noak Bikele got the save, and Oscar Rendon had two RBI for Paso Robles (3-1).
Ryan Harvel pitched four innings in the second game, allowing one run. Binkele had an RBI.
The Bearcats play Tuesday at Redwood in Visalia.
BOYS TENNIS
Nipomo 9 (75), Orcutt Academy 9 (60)
The Titans beat Orcutt Academy via tiebreaker.
Jon Johnson swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 and Jordan Smith took two out of three 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, for the Titans.
Jordan Smith dropped a set 3-6, before winning 6-0, 6-0, and Emilio Moreno also took two sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0.
San Luis Obispo 12, Righetti 6
Zach Hilty swept 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, and the doubles team of Alex Hasley and Kavi Freyaldenhoven swept 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, in the Tigers’ league opener.
The tandem of Cole Westwood and Kannan Freyaldenhoven won 6-4, 6-0, 6-3.
The Tigers (5-1) closed out the third and final round winning five of a possible six sets.
Atascadero 12, Paso Robles 6
The Greyhounds opened the league season with a win, propelled by Brendan Adams, who swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Dean Menigoz won 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, and Christian Wisberg also swept 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 for Atascadero.
The team of Luke Reilly and Niko Jenkins won 6-2, 6-0, 6-3, as the Greyhounds improved to 4-2 overall.
Arroyo Grande 15, Mission Prep 3
The Eagles’ doubles teams didn’t drop a game, winning all nine doubles sets 6-0.
Andrew Arcangel, Joey Kullman, and Gregg Hayden each took two out of three sets for Arroyo Grande.
The newly formed Mission Prep boys team was led by Luke Llaurado, who swept all three sets.
BOYS GOLF
Righetti 396, Paso Robles 431
The Warriors’ Keith Moles shot an even-par 72 at the Rancho Maria Golf Course.
Logan Elliot had the low score for Paso Robles, shooting a 79, and Bailey Flickinger added an 82.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Arroyo Grande 3, San Luis Obispo 0
The Eagles swept the Tigers in their league opener 25-17, 25-16, 25-17.
Evan Lalanne registered 15 kills, and Sasha Bylsma recorded 25 assists and three blocks.
Ryan Meffert added six kills and Jackson Tourdot had five kills.
Arroyo Grande is 4-0 on the season.
Mission Prep 3, Pioneer Valley 2
The Royals outlasted Pioneer Valley 11-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-27, 15-12, to open league play.
Matt Blaney had 12 kills, Spencer Garner added 11 kills and Michael Hernandez recorded 39 assists.
Mission Prep (1-1) will play in the San Luis Obispo Tournament this weekend.
SOFTBALL
San Luis Obispo 0, Templeton 0 (10 innings)
Sami Good and Hannah Gibbs combined for a 10-inning shutout and 12 strikeouts, allowing three hits for the Tigers.
The game was called after 10 innings.
The Tigers (2-1-1) managed a pair of hits by Janae Caldera and Sami Good.
San Luis Obispo hosts Nipomo in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Arroyo Grande 172, Righetti 114 (girls)
Samantha Hazel won the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes 4.70 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.56.
Hannah Parson won both the 200 individual medley (2:21.73) and 100 free (55.57), and Mikayla Pock placed first in the 50 free at 26.65 and the 100 fly (1:05.59).
Emily Sonny won the 100 breast 1:16.95, and the 200 free relay team won in 1:46.05.
On the boys side, no final score was available besides Arroyo Grande winning the dual. Trent Schachter won the 100 fly (53.60), a CIF consideration time, and the 200 free (1:47.21), and the Eagles placed first, second and third in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.
