Prep sports roundup: Nipomo softball, baseball teams victorious
The Nipomo High softball team erupted for five runs in the second en route to a 7-6 non-league victory over Paso Robles on Tuesday.
Kiesa Romero had an RBI single to get Nipomo on the board. Hope Goodall and Vanessa Davis each had 2-RBI singles.
In the fifth, Ahlijah Realin had a 2-RBI single to add to the lead.
Paso Robles wasn’t finished, however, as it added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the seventh before Nipomo’s defense put out the Bearcat rally with the tying and go-ahead runs left on base.
Goodall pitched a complete game for Nipomo (2-1), allowing seven hits over seven innings.
Paso Robles was led by Brooke Milder who went 2 for 3 with a triple and 3 RBI.
The Titans have a doubleheader against San Luis Obispo on Saturday.
Coast Union 2, Santa Maria 1
Kianna Valenzuela had an RBI in the first inning, and Maddie May drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth for the Broncos.
May finished with a pair hits, and Ellie Magnuson pitched a complete game, scattering four hits and allowing one run
“It was a good win today for us against a bigger school like that,” said coach Rocky Fordyce, whose team improves to 2-4 on the year.
The Broncos play Morro Bay on Thursday.
BASEBALL
Nipomo 4, Morro Bay 0
Nicholas Robledo threw a complete game, two-hit shutout and struck out eight to lead Nipomo over the Pirates.
Logan Stevens and Eduardo Garibay each had RBIs for the Titans (3-3, 2-1 LPL), who also scored a pair of runs on errors.
Nipomo plays Thursday at Templeton.
GOLF
San Luis Obispo 419, St. Joseph No Score
St. Joseph didn’t field enough players for a final score, but it did have the medalist: Ethan Ashbrook shot a 74 at the par-72 Dairy Creek Golf Course.
The Tigers had the next two places, with Andy Eppwright shooting a 76 and Casey Leebrick with a 78.
San Luis Obispo improves to 3-0 and 1-0 in the PAC 8 and play Wednesday against Atascadero at Chalk Mountain Golf Course.
Righetti 389, Atascadero 469
Keith Moles of Righetti shot a 2-over 74 to medal at the Chalk Mountain Golf Course.
Atascadero was led by Brian Woodard, who had an 81, and Austin McMillan, who shot a 94.
Paso Robles 425, Pioneer Valley 574
The Bearcats opened the PAC 8 season with a win, led by co-medalists Bailey Flickinger and Logan Elliot, who each shot an 80 at the Black Lake Golf Resort.
VOLLEYBALL
Morro Bay 3, Righetti 0
Dustin Limon had 14 kills, six aces and six blocks, and Dexter Marquardt added 10 kills and a pair of aces for the Pirates.
Theo Mackey recorded 33 assists, and Spencer Cecil posted nine kills and four blocks.
Morro Bay (3-0) begins league play against Santa Maria on Wednesday.
Arroyo Grande 3, Santa Ynez 0
Evan Lalanne had a team-high 15 kills and Brett MacDonald added 19 digs in the Eagles’ 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 victory. Sasha Bylsma posted 33 assists and Matt Wingerden chipped in five blocks and five kills.
Arroyo Grande (3-0) faces San Luis Obispo on Thursday.
TENNIS
Santa Ynez 13, Nipomo 5
John Johnson swept 6-0, 6-4, 6-3 in singles for the Titans (0-4, 0-3 LPL).
