Prep roundup: San Luis Obispo boys tennis team wins tournament in Clovis
The San Luis Obispo boys tennis team won Division 4 of the Tennis Classic in Clovis on Friday.
The Tigers beat Milpitas 4-2, Immanuel 5-1 and then defeated Bishop O’Dowd in the championship game 3-3 (8-7).
San Luis Obispo was led by the doubles team of Alex Hasley and Kavi Freyaldenhoven, who were undefeated on the day, winning 4-6, 6-2, 10-7, against Milpitas, 6-2, 6-2, against Immanuel and 6-4, 6-4, in the final.
Zach Hilty won the deciding singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 sweep.
The Tigers (4-1) begin PAC 8 play Thursday at home against Righetti.
The Arroyo Grande team beat Clovis East 6-0, lost to Head-Royce 4-2 and swept Turlock 6-0 in Division 3.
Joseph Goryance and Tyler Tencati swept their sets for the Eagles, and Joy Kullman paired with Austin Bricker to win two rounds before the freshman Kullman won a two-hour long singles match, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 11-9.
The Eagles host San Marcos at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
BASEBALL
San Luis Obispo 11, Morro Bay 0
Jeremy Jess, Cooper Benson and Benny Rodgers combined to throw a two-hit shutout for the Tigers in a home win over Morro Bay.
Benson struck out six in his two innings on the mound. Jess got the start and the win in four innings of work, and Rodgers got the save.
Four different players drove in two runs for San Luis Obispo (3-0) on offense. One of those players, Bryce Ramirez, went 2 for 3 with a double and a single. In total, the Tigers scored 10 runs in the first three innings and finished the game with 11 hits.
San Luis Obispo is next scheduled to play Santa Barbara on March 12. Morro Bay takes on Nipomo on Tuesday.
Nipomo 3, St. Joseph 1
The Titans got a gem from Spencer Pool in a Los Padres League win.
Pool tossed a four-hitter, allowing one earned run. He walked none and struck out none.
Colton Blume was 3 for 4 with an RBI for Nipomo (2-3, 1-1 LPL).
JJ Ramirez was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI, and Kyle Lane was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Paso Robles 5, Cabrillo 0
Nolan Binkele, Ryan Harvell and Matt Keller combined for the shutout for the Bearcats.
Oscar Rendon had an RBI single in the first, and Binkele added an RBI double in the fourth.
Justin Davis and Christian Erickson had back-to-back triples later in the game to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead, before Seth Matthysse singled home Erickson to cap the scoring.
The Bearcats improved to 2-0 and host Galena from Reno, Nev., on Thursday at 4 p.m.
King City 12, Coast Union 1
Lane Sutherland doubled and Will Stephenson singled in the Broncos’ season opener.
Jack Mackinnon scored on a groundout in the fourth for the lone run.
SOFTBALL
Coast Union 5, Mission Prep 2 (6 innings)
Ellie Magnusson had a double and a triple, with an RBI and two runs for Coast Union (1-4) on Friday, before weather stopped the game.
Maddie May added a pair of doubles and scored one run for the Broncos, and Magnusson allowed four hits and two runs while striking out four over the six innings.
The Broncos host Santa Maria on Tuesday.
Paso Robles 5, Templeton 4 (Thursday)

SWIMMING AND DIVING
Boys: Righetti 167.5, San Luis Obispo 137.5
The 4x100 team of Zander Rolph, Mark Erbstroesser, John Erbstroesser and Galen Penvenne recorded a time of 3 minutes, 27.63 seconds, good enough to earn CIF consideration.
Penvenne placed second in the 200 individual medley in a CIF consideration time of 2:00.17, and won the 100 freestyle in 48.61, also a CIF consideration time.
Mark Erbstroesser won the 200 free and Blake Griffith won the diving competition for San Luis Obispo.
The SLO Relays take place Saturday, with nine teams competing at Sinshiemer Pool, rain or shine.
Paso Robles 101, Atascadero 68 (boys); Paso Robles 106, Atascadero 58 (girls)
Josh Dewhurst won the 200 free, and Zac Brown won the 200 IM and 500 free for the Bearcats.
Dewhurst and Brown were also on the 200 medley relay which also won.
Mitchell Iunker won the 100 free, and was on the winning 400 free relay team with Brown.
Kasey Moffit won the 200 free and the 50 free, and Cece Ramirez won the 100 back.
Mackenzie Raymond won the 200 IM and the 500 free, and Moffit, Ramirez, Raymond and Ayala were all on the 400 free relay team that won.
Veronica Ayala won the 100 fly and the 200 medley relay, and Miranda Pasky won the 100 breaststroke.
