Prep roundup: Morro Bay, Paso Robles boys tennis teams roll to wins
The Morro Bay boys tennis team opened its league season with a 16-2 victory over Santa Maria on Thursday.
All singles players swept for the Pirates — Ryan Morris 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, Ethan Seims 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, and Simon Janzen 6-0, 6-3.
Santa Maria played shorthanded, leaving the Morro Bay doubles teams to only play a maximum of two games. Nigel Archer and Harry Lyu won 6-0, 6-1, and the tandem of Seth Wilkie and Avery Sowell won 6-1, 6-2.
Jonathan Tyra and Gianni Bocardo also won a set 6-1 for Morro Bay (3-1, 1-0 Los Padres League), which takes on Cabrillo on Tuesday.
Paso Robles 15, Coast Union 3
Dean Kim and CJ Wilson combined to win 6-0, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), and the team of Ryan Stronks and Evan Peroulx won 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 for the Bearcats (3-2).
Sebastian Galsim and Jason Belton swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 and each of the Paso Robles singles teams took two sets.
Alexis Morales swept 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 for Coast Union.
The Bearcats begin league play Tuesday against Atascadero.
Templeton 14, Nipomo 4
Jon Johnson won all three matches at No. 1 singles for the Titans.
Johnson won 6-2, 6-1, 6-, and Emilio Moreno won 6-0 at No. 3 singles after losing his first two matches 6-0, 6-1.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Morro Bay 3, St. Joseph 0
The Morro Bay boys volleyball team beat St. Joseph 25-16, 25-14, 25-20, led by Dustin Ramon’s 23 kills, eight assists and four blocks.
Spencer Cecil added 12 kills, four blocks and Theo Macky recorded 45 assists.
The Pirates (2-0) play Righetti on Tuesday.
Arroyo Grande 3, Santa Ynez 0
The Eagles swept the nonleague game, 25-10, 25-5, 25-13.
Sasha Bylsma had 30 assists, four blocks and two kills to lead Arroyo Grande (2-0).
Evan Lalanne had eight kills, and Jackson Tourdot added seven kills.
Paso Robles 3, Nipomo 0
The Bearcats won 25-23, 25-17, 25-18, led by Ethan Todd with 16 kills. Micah Canales added 24 digs and three aces and Ramon Torres recorded 26 assists.
TRACK AND FIELD
Boys: Nipomo 84, Templeton 69
Girls: Templeton 70, Nipomo 66
The Nipomo track and field team split its dual meet against Templeton, securing an 84-69 win on the boys side and losing 70-66 on the girls side.
Garrett Morgan won both the 800 (2 minutes, 7 seconds) and 1,600 (4:47).
The girls meet was decided by the 4x400 after Nipomo led 66-65 entering the race. Mackenzie Bland ran the anchor leg for Nipomo and closed the gap, but came up just short, as Templeton won the race by 0.34 seconds.
CIF-Southern Section finalist Jordynn Dorado won both the discus (119 feet) and the shot put (35-6 1/4 ).
BOYS GOLF
Nipomo at Los Padres League Tournament
The Titans took first at the league tournament hosted by Cabrillo at the Marshallia Ranch Golf Course in Lompoc.
Nipomo’s Ray Navis was the medalist, shooting a one-under 71. Morro Bay’s Garrett Holdstock was fifth with an 87.
Nipomo won the team title with a 433 total and Morro Bay was third (478).
