Prep baseball and softball roundup: SLO High edges Santa Maria

Hanna Murphy went 3 for 4 with a three run home run in the first inning and added a solo home run in the fifth to propel the San Luis Obispo High softball team to a 5-3 win over Santa Maria on Thursday.

Sami Good and Hannah Gibbs combined for a two-hitter and struck out 12, allowing no earned runs.

The Tigers (1-1) are at home Tuesday against Morro Bay.

Nipomo 12, Coast Union 4

Hope Goodall pitched a complete game for the Titans, allowing three hits and 13 strikeouts.

Goodall also went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs, and Gannae Abatti was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Nipomo improves to 1-1 on the season and plays at Paso Robles on Tuesday.

Paso Robles 5, Templeton 4

The Bearcats rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the sixth inning after Hunter Young hit a two-out two-run single, followed by a wild pitch that scored two more.

Templeton scored another run in the bottom of the sixth when Katie Murphee singled home Ashley Ingle, before the Bearcats rallied back for another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Becca Twyman to score Lya Abel.

The Eagles scored again in the bottom of the 7th, closing the lead to 5-4, scoring Kaitlin Doty on a ground out. Mandy Snowbarger put an end to the Templeton rally to earn her first save of the year.

Young was the winning pitcher for Paso Robles (2-0).

BASEBALL

Orcutt Academy 5, Nipomo 3

Austen Paulicano went 3 for 4 with two doubles in the Titans ’loss in a Los Padres League game.

Carmelo Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a triple, and Logan Stevens was 2 for 3 with two RBI for Nipomo (1-3, 1-1 LPL).

Spencer Persky got the start for the Titans, and allowed two runs in four innings pitched, striking out three.

Morro Bay 5, Templeton 4

Connor Masters went 2 for 4 with two RBI to help Morro Bay beat Templeton for the first time in seven years.

On Tuesday, the Pirates beat Santa Ynez for the first time in school history.

JJ May lasted 5 1/3 innings for Morro Bay, allowing three earned runs, and Ryan Whittner picked up the save, getting three consecutive outs with runners on first and second.

The Pirates (3-1, 2-0 Los Padres League) play at San Luis Obispo on Friday night.
