Prep roundup: SLO boys out in soccer playoffs

The San Luis Obispo High boys soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinals Friday night at Cathedral.

No. 1-seeded Cathedral opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before the Tigers equalized with five minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

Cathedral scored the golden goal in the fifth minute of the second overtime.

The Tigers finished 19-4-3 on the year.

Paso, Atascadero, A.G. wrestlers qualify for state

Paso Robles High’s Blake Irysh and Atascadero’s Tannen Soojian each won three matches on Friday at the CIF-Southern Section Masters Wrestling Meet in Ontario to secure spots in the state finals next month.

Irysh, a Paso Robles senior, will face Damien Bacajol from Citrus Hill on Saturday in the semifinals of the heavyweight division. Soojian, an Atascadero senior wrestling in the 182-pound weight class, will square off against Josh Loomer of Cajon.

Paso Robles freshman Nathan Garica, who finished the day 3-1 in the 145 weight class, still has a chance to qualify for the state meet, but will need one more win on Saturday.

For Arroyo Grande, Isaiah Rocha went 3-0 to qualify for the state meet at 138 pounds. Isaiah Hughes (170), went 3-1 on the day with two pins, and has a chance to qualify for state with a win on Saturday.

Morro Bay sweeps singles in tennis win over Paso

The Morro Bay High boys tennis team swept all three singles matches in a 13-5 win over Paso Robles on Friday.

Simon Janzen (6-4, 6-1, 6-0), Ryan Morris (6-0, 6-1, 6-2) and Ethan Siems (6-3, 6-0, 6-3) each had wins for the Pirates.

Morro Bay (2-0) plays on the road Monday against St. Joseph.
