Mission Prep boys basketball falls to Notre Dame 67-57

The Mission Prep boys basketball team lost to Notre Dame 67-57 in the third round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs Tuesday.

The Royals were outscored 36-20 in the first half but outscored Notre Dame 21-10 in the third.

“We had a slow start offensively and defensively. We weren’t able to contain in the first half,” Mission Prep coach Terrance Harris said.

“We made some adjustments at halftime. In the second half, we did execute the game plan,” he added.

The Royals cut the lead to 2 at one point in the second half but ultimately came up short.

Kyle Stewart led Mission Prep with 18 points, followed by Max Basile with 14.

Senior Ed Fernandez added 10 points.

“In a game where you’re down 16 on the road, it would have been very easy for them to feel sorry for themselves. They showed a lot of character. I’m proud of my team,” Harris said.

Mission Prep finishes the season co-PAC 8 champions and 20-9 on the year. The team graduates four seniors.
