Prep girls basketball roundup: Mission Prep, Arroyo Grande win playoff games

The Mission Prep girls basketball team beat Silver Valley 54-22 in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5AA playoffs. Noelle Laird led the way with 18 points and Jennifer Laird had 11 points.

Jacqueline San Jule added six steals and four assists and Catherine Ikeda recorded four steals for the Royals.

The Royals will play either Loma Linda Academy or Temecula Prep on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Arroyo Grande 46, Buena 40

Ashlyn Herlihy had a monster game, posting 22 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks in the Eagles’ win in a Division 2AA playoff game.

Bryunn Toming added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, who trailed 11-9 after the first quarter but led at the end of every quarter afterward.

Aleeza Bedania had four points and eight rebounds, Meghan Smith had seven assists for Arroyo Grande (22-6).

The Eagles advance to the quarterfinals, and will play either Kennedy or Mark Keppel on Wednesday.

Leuzinger 59, San Luis Obispo 48

The Tigers (13-14) lost in the second round of the Division 3A playoffs.

The Tigers had three players in double figures: Stephanie Brenner with 12 points, Lily Svetich with 11 points and Ali Todd added 10 points.

“The girls played extremely hard tonight,” coach Dan Monroe said. “We just didn’t execute enough on both ends of the floor … but I’m I’m proud of the way we fought tonight.”

Corona del Mar 47, Paso Robles 42

Grace Rosa had 12 points to lead the Bearcats in a Division 3A second-round playoff game.

Paso Robles (8-17) lost two key players to injury after taking a 10-point lead with three minutes to play in the first half. Nathalie Barahona suffered a dislocated shoulder, and Gwen Lundy, who had nine points in 2 1/2 quarters of play, dislocated her knee, coach Heidi Sill said in an email.

Maddy Zambrano made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the short-handed Bearcats tried to stay in the game.

“Our team played to the very end and despite adversity and injuries they played their hardest,” Sill said. “We are very proud of the girls’ effort tonight.”

Mesa Grande 51, Coastal Christian 19

The Conquerors (9-5) lost in a Division 6 second-round playoff game.
