Prep basketball roundup: Mission Prep, Coastal Christian win playoff games
The Mission Prep boys basketball team beat El Segundo 76-60 in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs Friday night.
The Royals had five players in double figures in a balanced game, and held an 18-6 lead after the first quarter.
Kyle Stewart led the way with 15 points, followed by Kyle Colvin with 14 and Max Basile with 13. Carter Gran had 12 points and Matt Blaney chipped in 10 points.
“Great team effort,” coach Terrance Harris said. “Good start offensively. Good start defensively. The momentum stayed with us in that first half.”
The Royals (19-8) travel to take on Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks on Tuesday night.
Edison 55, Arroyo Grande 43
Patrick Angle had a team high 14 points in a loss for the Eagles.
The score was 14-14 after the first quarter, and Edison led 23-19 at the half, but a six point third quarter sunk the Eagles’ hopes.
Arroyo Grande finishes 15-14 on the year.
La Canada 58, San Luis Obispo 32
“We struggled to score tonight,” coach Jeff Brandow said of his team’s CIF-Southern Section Division 4AA second-round playoff loss. “But, (it’s) nothing to hang our heads about. I’m proud of our boys.”
The Tigers wrap up the season 16-14 overall.

Laguna Beach 52, Atascadero 32
Darin Richardson led Laguna Beach with 15 points, and Atascadero lost in a CIF-Southern Section Division 4AA second-round playoff game.
Atascadero trailed 28-14 at the half. The Greyhounds finish the year 19-8.
St. Bernard 55, Coast Union 24
The Broncos struggled offensively in a CIF-Southern Section Division 5A second-round playoff game in Cambria.
The Broncos scored just three points in the second quarter and trailed 34-10 at halftime.
Auggie Johnson led Coast Union (15-11) with nine points. Jez Lawson added seven.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Coastal Christian 36, Lee Vining 18
Delaney Springer had 14 points to lead the Conquerors in their first-round CIF-Southern Section Division 6 playoff game.
Jordan Stone added 11 points, and Melody Parker had seven.
Coastal Christian (9-5) will play Mesa Grande Academy on Saturday at 8 p.m.
