CIF boys basketball: Wins for Arroyo Grande, Mission Prep, SLO, Nipomo, Coast Union

The Arroyo Grande boys basketball team beat Mark Keppel 56-42 to open the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs.

The Eagles were led by Bradley Mickey, who scored 20 points, and Will Silmon had 17 points and six rebounds.

Patrick Angle added 12 points.

The Eagles host Edison on Friday in the second round.

Mission Prep 63, San Marino 44

The Royals opened the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs with a win. Mission Prep had four different players in double figures and allowed only two points in the second quarter.

Carter Gran and Max Basile led the way with 13 points apiece, and Kyle Stewart had 12.

Matt Blaney added 11.

San Luis Obispo 60, Santa Ynez 43

The Tigers earned a CIF Southern Section Division 4AA first round win behind Seth Moore’s 17 points, including three three-pointers.

Nick Attala had 13 points, Alex Chai added 10, and Augusto Supertino chipped in 14 points.

“We played really good defense,” said coach Jeff Brandow, whose team improved to 16-13 on the year. “(We) held them 17 points in the first half. The defense really set the tone. It was a huge win for the program, and I’m looking forward to Friday.”

The Tigers will host No. 1 seed La Canada at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Nipomo 70, Buckley 59

Mason Gallegos scored 23 points and hit five three-pointers to propel the Titans (11-18) to their first-ever CIF Southern Section Division 4AA win.

Luke Willenius had 17 points, and Mark Hilbert had 14 more, including four three-pointers.

The Titans will host either Serra on Friday or play Desert Hot Springs on the road.

Coast Union 45, AGBU-Pasadena 42

Sam Mackinnon had 15 points, and Jez Lawson added 10 more in the Broncos’ CIF Southern Section Division 5A victory.

Coast Union (15-10) will play either St. Bernard or Brethren Christian on Friday at home.
