San Luis Obispo High girls soccer team earns No. 3 seed in CIF-Southern Section playoffs
The San Luis Obispo High girls soccer team overcame every challenge their opponent threw at them this season, rolling to a 22-0-1 record. Their reward? The No. 3 seed in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs, making them the only county team to get a top 4 seeding in boys or girls soccer.
That high seeding gives the Tigers a first-round home matchup against Lancaster (9-6-4), the third-place team from the Golden League at 3 p.m. Thursday.
San Luis Obispo, with principal Leslie O’Connor at the helm, went 14-0 in PAC 8 play to win its first league title since 2007-2008.
The Tigers are the vanguard of a strong girls soccer contigent to make the playoffs, as five teams from the county reached the postseason.
Arroyo Grande (13-6-4), the PAC 8 runners-up, also host a playoff game, as Santa Barbara (8-7-2, the Channel League runner-up) comes to town Thursday.
Mission Prep (13-7-3), which finished third in the PAC 8, hosts a wild-card game against Highland (8-10-2, fourth in the Golden League) on Tuesday.
Going on the road are Atascadero (14-6-1, fourth in the PAC 8) and Nipomo (15-6-1, Los Padres League co-champs). The Greyhounds are at Buena (2-2-4, third in the Channel League) in a wild-card game Tuesday, while the Titans are at Pacifica (9-6-5, Pacific View League runner-up) in a Division 5 first-round game Thursday.
Two boys soccer teams reached the playoffs, and both teams will host games. San Luis Obispo (17-3-3) captured the PAC 8 title and was ranked No. 9 in Division 3 in the final poll released Monday. The Tigers will host Los Padres League runner-up Cabrillo (14-6-2) in a Division 3 first-round game at 3 p.m. Friday.
Arroyo Grande (14-8-0), which finished third in the PAC 8, will host Littlerock (11-5-0, third in the Golden League) in a Division 3 wild-card game at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
