Seven SLO County teams will host first-round high school basketball playoff games

Three San Luis Obispo County high school boys basketball teams and four girls teams will host first-round playoff games this week, while many more hit the road after teams learned their fates when the CIF-Southern Section released its playoff pairings Sunday.

In boys basketball, Mission Prep (18-8), which clinched a share of the PAC 8 title, will host San Marino (14-10), an at-large team from the Rio Hondo League, in a Division 4AA first-round game Wednesday. On the same day, Coast Valley League champion Coast Union (14-10) will host AGBU-Pasadena (6-12), an at-large team from Westside League in a Division 5A first-round matchup, while PAC 8 third-place finisher Atascadero (18-7) hosts Bassett (9-6), the third-place team from the Miramonte League, in a Division 4AA first-round game.

On the girls side, Arroyo Grande (19-6), which earned a share of the PAC 8 title, hosts Foothill League at-large team West Ranch (12-13) in a Division 2AA first-round game Thursday. Also hosting games Thursday are CVL runners-up Coast Union (8-5), which drew South Valley League at-large Calvary Murrieta (10-10) in Division 5A, Mission Prep (third in the PAC 8, 17-8) and Coastal Christian (third in the CVL 8-4). The Royals will play Einstein Academy (third in the Omega League, 5-10) in a Division 5AA game, and the Conquerors will take on Lee Vining (third in the Hi-Lo League) in a Division 6 matchup.

A slew of teams from the county travel to first-round games this week. The boys brackets has Arroyo Grande (14-13) heading to Mark Keppel (the Almont League champion, 19-9) for a Division 2AA first-round game Wednesday. San Luis Obispo (15-13) travels to Santa Ynez (third in the Los Padres League, 18-5) and Nipomo (10-18) will be at Buckley (Liberty League champs, 11-13) in Division 4AA matchups. In Division 6, Shandon (third in the CVL) travels to Providence (Condor League champs, 15-6).

The girls bracket finds Paso Robles (7-17) at Montview League runners-up Sierra Vista (13-9) and San Luis Obispo (12-13) at South El Monte (tied for second in the Mission Valley League, 19-7) in Division 3A first-round games Thursday. Templeton (11-10) heads to Camino League champion Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary (21-6) for a Division 4A game. In Division 4AA, Atascadero (7-17) travels to Lompoc (LPL co-champs, 19-6), Nipomo (14-12) heads to El Segundo (third in the Ocean League, 15-11) and Morro Bay goes to Frontier League champion Foothill Technology (23-1).
