Prep roundup: Atascadero girls basketball team beats Pioneer Valley

The Atascadero High girls basketball team beat Pioneer Valley 53-41 behind Reylyssa Reyes, who scored 22 points.

The Greyhounds did not allow a Pioneer Valley player to score in double figures, and finished 18-of-21 from the free-throw line.

Ariana Gonzales added 14 points for Atascadero (5-11, 2-5 PAC 8), which plays St. Joseph on Wednesday.

Arroyo Grande 54, St. Joseph 23

Ashlyn Herlihy scored 24 points and Kinsey McBryde had 15 points — all from behind the 3-point line — in the Eagles’ win.

Brynn Thoming chipped in 11 points.

Arroyo Grande (12-6, 6-1 PAC 8) faces Righetti at home on Wednesday, the only team who has handed the Eagles a loss in league play this year.

Mission Prep 44, San Luis Obispo 25

Jacqueline San Jule had 11 points and five assists, and Noelle Laird led the team with 12 points.

Jennifer Laird registered 10 points for the Royals.

Lily Svetich had eight points and Stephanie Brenner notched seven points for the Tigers.

Righetti 49, Paso Robles 37

Grace Rosa had 22 points for the Bearcats in a PAC 8 loss in Santa Maria.

Paso Robles (4-13, 3-4 PAC 8) was outscored 20-5 in the first quarter, but closed within six points in the fourth quarter before the Bearcats’ rally came up short.

Rosa’s 22-point effort comes on the heels of her 25-point night in Paso Robles’ 37-24 win over Pioneer Valley on Wednesday night.

GIRLS SOCCER

Atascadero 3, Pioneer Valley 1

After a scoreless first half, Ali Andrade got the Greyhounds on the board with a penalty kick in the second.

Pioneer Valley tied the score at 1-all before Hannah Flickenger broke the deadlock on an assist by Rachel Foley.

Foley would assist Flickenger on the final goal to all but seal the game.

Skyler Fleming had four saves in the victory for the Greyhounds, who have a make up game against Mission Prep on Monday.

San Luis Obispo 2, Mission Prep 0

Grace Park scored in the first half with a glancing header off a cross by Genevieve Basich-Pease.

Park would later assist Ally Kulik, who found the top corner from 12 yards out for the Tigers (15-0-1, 7-0 PAC 8).

Mission Prep (9-4-2, 3-1-2 PAC 8) had eight shots, and Royals goalkeeper Gabby Flores made six saves in goal.

Arroyo Grande 3, St Joseph 1

The Eagles got on the board early as Cate Boller found the back of the net in the 4th minute off a Demi Wack assist.

In the second half, Jo Graeber scored off an Alex Palangi pass after a corner kick bounced around in the box. Palangi would later have a goal of her own before St. Joseph got on the board with six minutes to go.

Goalkeeper Sam Henkel had four saves in the first half, and none in the final period.

Arroyo Grande (6-4-3, 4-2 PAC 8) plays Righetti on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Joseph 65, Arroyo Grande 32

Bradley Mickey scored a team high 12 points, and Patrick Angle added seven in Arroyo Grande’s defeat.

The Eagles were outscored in the second quarter 21-3.

Coast Union 51, Shandon 15

Sam Mackinnon had 14 points, and Jack Mackinnon scored 12 in the Broncos’ win.

BOYS SOCCER

Pioneer Valley 1, Atascadero 0 (2OT)

Atascadero made it to double overtime despite playing a man down for most of the second half, after a player picked up two yellow cards.

Carson Setting had seven saves in goal for the Greyhounds (9-7, 1-5 PAC 8), who will look to rebound against Mission Prep on Monday.
