Prep roundup: SLO High girls water polo tops St. Joseph

The San Luis Obispo girls water polo team beat St. Joseph 11-2 at home on Tuesday, led by Autumn Faccinto’s four goals. Campbell Warren added a pair of goals, and five other Tigers had at least one goal.

Rachel Lovato notched five saves in goal for San Luis Obispo, which plays in the Oxnard Tournament this weekend beginning Friday at 3:40 p.m. against Westlake.


Lompoc 70, Nipomo 31

Ashley Hernandez had nine points, and Kiesa Romero added six more as the Titans fell in a Los Padres League clash. Lompoc jumped out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter.

Nipomo (9-10, 5-2) plays at Cabrillo on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Templeton 56, Orcutt Academy 43

Vanessa Urciuoli had 12 points and five steals, and Julia Aurignac posted a double-double, with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Eagles went on a 15-2 run to open the game.

Shelby Sudbrink had nine points, and Haley Hurdle added nine points and 10 rebounds for Templeton (7-8, 3-4 LPL), who play at Santa Ynez on Thursday.

Santa Ynez 37, Morro Bay 36

Morro Bay’s late comeback fell just short against Santa Ynez. Seven players scored for the Pirates les by Julia Fonturbel with eight points and 14 rebounds. Juliana Ruef had five points and a season-high 17 rebounds. Claire Gragson and Skye Schwellenbach had 5 points each.

The loss moved Morro Bay to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in Los Padres league play.


Pioneer Valley 55, Paso Robles 6

Kade England won a 9-8 decision at 160 pounds for Paso Robles and John Cabral won a 3-1 decision at 195. Bearcat Nathan Garcia, a top-20 ranked wrestler in the Southern Section at 145 pounds, fell against fellow top-20 wrestler Roman Garcia 3-0.

At 285, Paso Robles’ Blake Irysh lost in quadruple overtime 3-2 in another matchup of top-20 ranked wrestlers.
