Tristan Torres scored two goals — including what proved to be the game winner — as the San Luis Obispo High boys soccer team earned a PAC 8 victory over Atascadero 3-2 in overtime on Friday.
Keith McCarty opened the scoring for the Tigers after a scoreless first half to make it 1-0. Atascadero would even the score with 10 minutes remaining on a Manny Perez goal which was assisted by Connor Setting, and took the lead early in the first overtime on an Alex Marca goal, also assisted by Setting.
Torres scored his first goal on free kick from 30-yards out to tie the game at 2-2.
Defender Cole Halfman beat his man down the wing and found Torres in the box, where he beat the keeper from 12 yards out.
Carson Setting had six saves in goal for Atascadero (9-5, 1-3 PAC 8).
San Luis Obispo (8-3-2, 2-1-1 PAC 8) plays Paso Robles on Monday, and Atascadero takes on Mission Prep.
Paso Robles 3, Mission Prep 0
Leo Anaya had a goal and an assist to lead the Bearcats over Mission Prep.
Josh Bustamante and Jose Meija each added goals, and both Javier Solis and Isaiah Garcia had assists.
All three goals came in the second half for Paso Robles (7-5-4, 2-2 PAC 8), who play San Luis Obispo on Monday.
Arroyo Grande 3, Pioneer Valley 0
Demi Wack had a goal and an assist to lead the Eagles. Wack assisted on a Shyanne Douglas goal off a corner to open the scoring. Wack later scored a goal of her own and as did Cate Boller, which was assisted by Jo Graeber.
Arroyo Grande improves to 2-2 in the PAC 8 and 5-5-3 overall. The Eagles play a make up game on Monday against Righetti at 2:30 p.m.
San Luis Obispo 2, Atascadero 1
After falling behind 1-0 early, San Luis Obispo scored two unanswered goals to come away with the win in Atascadero.
“Atascadero is a very strong and physical team,” San Luis Obispo coach Leslie O’Connor said. “It was a good gut check for us.”
With 10 minutes left in the first half, a corner kick sent into the box by Maddie Johnson was headed home by Isabelle Mendoza to even it up at 1-1 going into halftime.
The go-ahead goal came when Sierra Nunes played a through ball to Olivia Ortiz who slid it past the Greyhounds keeper with 15 minutes to go.
The win moves San Luis Obispo to 12-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the PAC 8. Atascadero is now 9-2-1 overall and 2-2 in PAC 8 play.
San Luis Obispo takes on Paso Robles Monday night in a make up game and Atascadero travels to Mission Prep on Tuesday.
