Prep girls soccer: Mission Prep heads into league season with win
Mission Prep girls soccer capped off its nonleague schedule Wednesday with a win against Cabrillo at the Tartan Shootout in San Juan Capistrano.
Mission Prep (6-3) opened the day with a 1-0 loss to Francis Parker.
“We just couldn’t control the middle,” Mission Prep coach Gil Braga said. “But we came back and said, ‘Let’s finish this tournament with a win.’ ”
Braga made some tactical changes against Cabrillo, and the Royals scored in the first 10 minutes on a Sammi Fernandez goal assisted by Hannah Ogden.
Jenna Miller scored Mission Prep’s second goal on a strike from 25 yards out to make it 2-0.
Cabrillo scored to open the second half, but a second goal by Fernandez and a final goal by Emma Kuchinski sealed the win.
Keeper Maddie Morley had 11 saves in the two games combined, and the Roayls went 2-2 in the tournament.
Mission Prep will open league play against Pioneer Valley next Wednesday.
