Prep girls soccer: Mission Prep splits, Arroyo Grande and Nipomo tie

Mission Prep’s girls soccer tean split a two-game set on Tuesday at the Tartan Shootout in San Juan Capistrano.

In the first game, Mission Prep (5-2) defeated Bakersfield Christian 2-1. Freshman Camryn Stout opened the scoring in the first minute for the Royals after a shot from Sammi Fernandez bounced of the keeper’s hands and right to her feet.

The second Royals goal came in the 20th minute with a shot from Sammi Fernandez from 20 yards that deflected off a defender and found the back of the net, head coach Gil Braga said. Bakersfield Christian scored in the 3rd minute of the second half to close the gap, but Mission Prep managed to hold on for the win.

Maddie Morley, who is filling in for Gabby Flores in goal while she recovers from a concussion, had five saves.

The second game was a different story against host school St. Margaret's Episcopal. Braga said his team was unable to maintain the same pace from the first game and lost 5-0. Morley had 26 saves.

Mission Prep plays two more games on Wednesday — at 11 a.m. against Francis Parker School from San Diego, and at 2 p.m. against Cabrillo.

Nipomo 2, AG 2

Arroyo Grande scored in the final two minutes of its game against Nipomo to salvage a tie Tuesday.

Nipomo’s Gwen Menane scored for the Titans in the 35th minute after to answer Arroyo Grande and tie the game at 1-1 at the half.

Nipomo (5-6-2, 0-2-0 Los Padres) took a 2-1 advantage when Jackie Lopez netted the second Titans goal before the late goal by the Eagles secured a tie.
