Prep basketball: Mission Prep girls storm back in SoCal Prep Classic win
The Mission Prep girls basketball team trailed by eight points going into the fourth quarter — but they stormed back with a minute remaining to defeat Santa Fe Christian 41-36 at the SoCal Prep Classic.
Jenna Lee had a team-high 16 points, and Jacqueline San Jule had 13 points in the victory.
Noelle Laird grabbed 11 rebounds, and Ani Boncich chipped in with nine boards. Jennifer Laird added 10 points for Mission Prep (6-3).
Atascadero 46, Templeton 45
Abby Richie notched the game-winner on a layup for the Greyhounds at the Righetti Tournament.
Atascadero missed a shot with 10 seconds remaining, but kept possession after the ball went out off a Templeton defender. With five seconds left, the Greyhounds in-bounded, and Richie beat the defender to the basket to win the game.
Reylessa Reyes had 16 points, and Aryana Gonzales added 15 for Atascadero (2-5), who continue play in the tournament at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Santa Maria.
Annie Elterman had 14 points, and Julia Aurignac grabbed 16 rebounds for the Eagles (4-4). Templeton plays Pioneer Valley at noon.
Santa Maria 51, Paso Robles 46 (OT)
Grace Rosa scored 26 points, and Bailey Lewis had nine in the loss for the Bearcats.
Paso Robles had several oppurtunities win at the buzzer but were unable to convert, sending the game to overtime.
“We broke their press well,” coach Heidi Sill said.
Paso Robles (1-7) plays at 3 p.m. against Righetti.
BOYS BASKETBALL: Mission Prep 66, Bakersfield 63
The Mission Prep boys basketball team beat Bakersfield 66-63 at the Under Armour Holiday Classic in Torrey Pines on Monday.
Carter Gran had 12 points, and Kyle Stewart and Max Basile each had 10 points in the win.
The Royals overcame a five-point second quarter to beat the Drillers.
Bakersfield’s Xavier Esquivel scored 33 points.
Arroyo Grande 52, Costa Mesa 46
The Eagles trailed 13-5 after the first quarter, but came back to win behind Sawyer May’s 13 points at the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic. Patrick Angle registered 11 points and five assists, Will Silmon had nine points and 10 rebounds and AJ Panetta had eight points for the Eagles.
Arroyo Grande (7-3) takes on Flintridge Prep at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Atascadero 65, East Bakersfield 45
The Greyhounds had four players in double figures at the Atascadero Holiday Classic. Trevor Howell had 15 points and Gabe Curry added 10 more.
Marco Rojas had 10 points and eight assists and Elijah Cooks posted 10 points and had 11 rebounds in the victory. Atascadero (7-2) hosts Lompoc at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
lhambra (Martinez) 48, Paso Robles 39
Dante Coletta and Trevor Weiger had 11 points apiece for the Bearcats (3-6) at the Atascadero Holiday Classic.
Santa Maria 44, Coast Union 43
Roberto Cueva had a team high 14 points and Jez Lawson added 10 for the Broncos (5-7) at the Santa Maria Tournament. Coast Union takes on Lindsay at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
