MVP Todd paces SLO High girls in Tournament of Champions win
Ali Todd and Cami Storlie each scored 10 points, and the San Luis Obispo High girls basketball team defeated Channel Islands 51-44 to win the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions Green Division title Wednesday.
Todd was named most valuable player during a tounament run that coach Dan Monroe called “a total team effort.”
Whitney Burns and Marissa Piatt both added 9 points for SLO High (7-4). The Tigers begin league play Jan. 6.
“Tonight we bounced back from a tough loss yesterday. It really showed the maturity of our team to put it behind us and perform like we did today,” Monroe said.
Monroe said Wednesday’s victory showed SLO High has developed an identity: gritty defense.
“We’re a stingy, aggressive, defensive team,” he said.
Oak Park 51, Nipomo 47
Kiesa Romero had 15 points, and Vanessa Davis added 12 more as Nipomo fell at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.
Point guard Kylie Mendez was named to the all-tournament team for the Titans (5-9), who begin league play Jan. 5.
