Prep roundup: Morro Bay wrestling team takes third in San Jose tournament

The Morro Bay High wrestling team took third out of 26 teams at the Buzolich Classic in San Jose on Saturday.

The Pirates finished behind winner Oak Grove and Bellarmine.

Joe Morris, who remained undefeated at 13-0, took first place at 120 pounds, defeating Anthony Barajas of Overfelt 3-1 in the title bout.

The Pirates had a slew of medalists at the event. Alex Dahn took third place at 132 pounds, while Trey Dennia (106), Kyle Vaughan (113), Bobby Carbone (128) and Luke Buentiempo (195) each finished fourth.

Cole Visconte (160) and Luis Alvarez (170) each finished in the top eight.

Paso Robles at Titan Legacy Duals

The Bearcats went 3-2 at the tournament in Bakersfield over the weekend.

Paso Robles (5-2) beat Stockdale, Golden Valley and Dos Palos and lost to Dinuba and Centennial.

Nathan Garcia led the way for the Bearcats, going 5-0 at 152 pounds. John Cabrall (195), Blake Irish (heavyweight) and Cory Southward (106) each went 4-1 at the tournament.

Mission Prep at Garces Tournament

The Royals won the Gold “B” Pool championship Saturday.

Mission Prep Monache 5-0 in title match, behind a hat trick from Emma Kuchinski and two goals from Maddie Morley.

The Royals beat Morro Bay 5-0 in semifinals, getting two goals from Sammi Fernandez and Kuchinski and a single goal from Morley.

Kuchinski six goals in the tournament. Goalkeeper Gabby Flores did not allow a goal, making 13 saves in three games

Mission Prep at Garces Tournament

The Royals lost 3-0 to Wood Lake and 2-0 to Kennedy on Saturday.
