Three Cal Poly swimmers shine at Winter National Championships
Sage Speak, Zach Cootes and Archie Mitchell all posted Top-25 times for the Cal Poly swimming program in the preliminary rounds of their events Saturday, on the third and final day of the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships.
Speak earned her second Olympic Trials qualification in as many days — qualifying with a time of 2:33.51 in the 200-meter breaststroke. Speak finished 16th overall in the event.
Mitchell posted a 2:03.89 time in the 200 backstroke, and Cootes registered a 2:03.60 in the 200 butterfly.
Mitchell was fourth overall in the 200 backstroke in the Championship B Final.
Cootes was eighth in the C Final of the 200 fly championship, with a mark of 2:04.02. Michael Phelps was first in the event with a time of 1:56.11.
The Cal Poly women’s team hosts San Diego State on Dec. 18.
