Prep boys basketball roundup: Paso Robles starts the season with close loss to Garces

The Paso Robles High boys basketball opened the season with a 43-41 loss to Garces on Thursday at the Harding Invitational Tournament in Morro Bay.

Garces hit the game-winning basket with 8 seconds remaining to close out a back-and-forth game, Bearcats coach Matt Drake said. Garces led 17-16 at halftime.

Drake said the Bearcats shot just 17 of 62 from the field.

Ty Jones and Tyler Penn led Paso Robles with nine points apiece. Gabe Linn added 10 rebounds.

The Bearcats continue play in the tournament Friday.

SLO 50, Carlsbad 39

Alex Chai and Nick Attala scored 10 points each for San Luis Obispo in a defensive battle against Carlsbad and the Tigers came away with the 50-39 win.

Forward Augusto Supertino added 9 points at the Harding Invitational Tournament at Morro Bay to move San Luis Obispo's record on the season to 2-1.

Atascadero 65, Selma 47

Marco Rojas scored 23 points, and Will Scott had 11 as Atascadero won its season opener at the Harding Invitational Tournament.

Gabe Perry registered eight points as the Greyhounds shared the ball effectively, notching 20 assists on 27 made baskets.

Atascadero plays Garces at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Arroyo Grande 52, El Capitan 43

Gage Antonio scored 16 points in the Eagles’ win at the Harding Invitational Tournament.

Patrick Angle scored nine points and Bradley Mickey chipped in with seven.

The Eagles outscored El Capitan 12-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Morro Bay 51, Coast Union 35

Mar Joe Delacruz had a game-high 14 points in the Pirates win at the Harding Invitational Tournament.

Spencer Cecil and Boden Reaber each added 11 points for Morro Bay.

Jez Lawson had 13 points and Sam Mackinnon had seven points for the Broncos. Coast Union play Templeton at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Morro Bay 81, Shandon 35

Cecil had 29 points to lead the Pirates over the Outlaws in their second game of the Harding Invitational Tournament.

Tyler Chivens had nine points and Delacruz had eight points for the Pirates.

Morro Bay plays El Capitan at 3 p.m. on Friday.
