Prep soccer roundup: San Luis Obispo boys team pulls away from Santa Maria in second half
After a scoreless first half, the San Luis Obispo High boys soccer team erupted with three goals in the second half to win 3-1 over Santa Maria on Thursday.
Brian Finger had a goal on a penalty kick to open the scoring for the Tigers. Cole Broome-Hanvey tacked on another goal and Logan Axberg had the final goal for San Luis Obispo, which was assisted by Keith McCarty.
Benji Alonso had five saves for San Luis Obispo (2-0-0), which travels to take on Santa Ynez at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Morro Bay 1, Coast Union 1
Seth Wilkie scored for Morro Bay to even the score 1-1 on penalty kick.
“The defense and midfield and backline really stepped up this game,” said coach Andrew Wilkie, whose team was coming off a 4-2 loss to Atascadero on Tuesday.
The Pirates (0-1-1) face Paso Robles next Thursday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Nipomo 2, Paso Robles 1
The Titans rallied to beat Paso Robles.
Trailing by a goal, Nipomo scored just before the first half ended. Bella Albano scored the goal, which was assisted by Lauren Iliff.
In the second half, Alyssa Zarate scored what proved to be the game-winner for Nipomo (2-0-0), which faces Atascadero on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
San Luis Obispo 7, Santa Maria 0
Joella Holmes, Olivia Ortiz and Amelia Carr each scored a pair of goals in the Tigers’ convincing win.
Ariadna Maza added another goal to bring San Luis Obispo’s record to 2-0. The Tigers host Santa Ynez on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
