Arroyo Grande High girls tennis doubles team reaches third round at CIF-Southern Sectionals

The Arroyo Grande High girls tennis doubles team of Delanie Dunkle and Mary Waterman made it to the third round of the CIF-Southern Sectionals individual competition Monday at Caprinteria and Cate high schools.

Dunkle, a freshman, and Waterman, a junior, are the PAC 8 doubles champions, and had a first-round bye Monday. In a second-round match held at Carpinteria High, they defeated Viewpoint’s Lauren Angard and Kat Ulrich, the Gold Coast League’s No. 2 doubles team, 6-0, 6-3.

In a third-round match at Cate High, Dunkle and Waterman’s season came to an end with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Buena’s Caisey Lee Emery and Colbey Shea Emery, the No. 1 doubles team from the Channel League.

“I think for their first crack at playing together at this level, they competed well and learned a lot about each other’s games,” Arroyo Grande coach Lori Hollister said. “I feel they can hold their heads high and feel good about how they competed.”
