Prep girls tennis roundup: Coast Union wins second in a row
The Coast Union High girls tennis team won its second match in a row, outlasting Nipomo in a tiebreaker at home, 9-9 (74-73).
Head coach Ronnie Ruggles said the Broncos’ win last week was their first in two years.
“This is a huge team effort,” he said. “Nobody won all three matches.”
Maddie May won two of three matches, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles for Coast Union (2-10).
The No. 3 doubles team of Ani Corbet and Alyssa Drew also won two of three, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Atascadero 14, Righetti 4
Nicoline Breytenbach swept all three of her singles matches 6-0 to lead the Greyhounds to the PAC 8 win at home.
Gabriella Diaz and Kiahana Torres swept their doubles matches, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, for the Greyhounds (8-4, 7-4 PAC 8).
Atascadero hosts San Luis Obispo on Tuesday and travels to Arroyo Grande on Thursday.
San Marcos 14, Arroyo Grande 4
The Eagles lost to tennis powerhouse San Marcos in a nonleague match.
Delanie Dunkle won two of three singles matches, 4-6, 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles teams of Emma Mostajo and Jillian Burns and Mary Waterman and Casey Lieberman each won a set for Arroyo Grande (14-3)
